Creative director/business card cartoonist Hugh MacLeod has an entry about how to be creative that offers hope to every wannabe writer, artist, success or what-have-you.
My favorite is his ‘sex and cash theory’, though since I lost my day job I think I’d have a hard time following his advice.
How Not To Be Creative
Since I’m not creative enough to write a real blog post, here’s some interesting links instead! It’s Curtains for Heritage USA The Christian Exodus people are really going to be upset about this … N.T. Wright audio messages on Romans…
I agree with the sex & cash theory though. Most of my paintings that I make…people hate them. They look at them and are like, “Who is that creepy person in the background? Can’t you make something more…cheerful?” Or when my sis-in-law asked me for a painting that would “match her couch.” I told her that I’d have to charge her for it. She was like, “Can’t you just make me one for free?” Because I had given her other drawings…. I told her that it pained me greatly to create a painting around a couch color…so I better get paid for it. If I make a painting/drawing just because I wanted to & enjoyed creating it…those could be for free. I don’t think she got my point, but at least I never had to make the ugly couch painting.
Yeah, what she said.
Also, what about prostitutes? If “cash” is sex, then what is “sex”? Cash?
