Home from the Hospital

We brought Lexi home from the hospital today and it’s all starting to feel real. I watched Abby fall asleep while sitting up, we’ve taken our first nap, and I’ve had to try just about everything to get her to stop crying. The dogs also met Lexi today, which so far seems to be going pretty well. Though it’s hard to yell at the dogs when they start barking at nothing, since then I’m even louder than they are and not what Lexi wants to hear.

While the grandparents saw us off from the hospital this morning, we kicked them out for the rest of the day so we can get used to being at home. We’ll have plenty of help in the next few days, but we’re eager to just be at home and be quiet and let Lexi get used to home and let the dogs get used to the latest interruption.

So far she has two modes: sleeping and eating. If she’s not doing one of those, she’s wishing she was, which means crying and being inconsolable. Last night a friend recommended lots of naked baby pictures–they’ll come in handy in about 15 years.

In related news, you may have heard that President George W. Bush was in town today. Unfortunately, Lexi was too busy to see him, so the leader of the free world had to head home disappointed.

I’m also being quite the geeky dad and uploading loads of photos to Flickr. So that’s your source for all Lexi, all the time (sorry, no naked baby pics just yet).

Update: And how could I forget the gnomes? We came home to find our bathroom mysteriously clean. Now I know we don’t clean the bathroom very often, so it couldn’t have been us. But we have a few hunches. Friends are great. We called another friend who was going to feed our dogs for us and when I asked what he was up to he said doing your dishes. It doesn’t get better.
