10 Things I Hate About Blogging

I love blogging. Why else would I keep doing it for almost seven years? But still, some things about it just annoy me. So I present the Top 10 Things I Hate About Blogging.

10. The Name of My Blog.
Thoughts. What a stupid name. It started as Daily Ponderings and then became ReAL Thoughts and is now just Thoughts. Stupid. All of them. The problem is I can’t come up with anything better. As dumb as the name is, it sure beats Kevin’s Blog.

9. Random E-mails.
As much as I enjoy getting feedback from my blogs and meeting random people, I never have time to e-mail the random people back, or at least say more than a few words. Oh, now I have guilt.

8. The Blog Buzz.
Everybody seems to be buzzing about blogging, and the buzz just gets crazier every year. I love it because I think blogging deserves the attention, but I hate it because people rarely get it right or fully understand the significance of blogging.

7. New Technology.
As much as I love technology, I’m usually too busy to learn the new stuff. That usually doesn’t stop me, but I hate having to put things aside to upgrade Movable Type or learn some new bit of code. Movable Type currently has a new version out that should help a lot with spam, but I just haven’t had the time or energy to invest in checking it out.

6. Stupid Commenters.
I keep getting people commenting on my sites who don’t seem to understand what a blog is. They read a quote from some celebrity and think this is the celebrity’s site or that said celebrity will somehow read their comment on this random site and e-mail them back. Wha?!

5. Privacy.
Obviously I have as much privacy as I want to give myself, but I still find it annoying that I can’t write about anything I want. I have to keep in mind who might be reading and not say something stupid. Makes my online journal a bit less personal and a sorry journal at that. It also means there’s some stuff you can’t talk about. Unless you want to get disowned or blacklisted. Oh well.

4. Jerk Commenters.
I can forgive stupidity, but what really bothers me is when people are just plain mean.

3. Spam Commenters.
OK, now these people are just the worst. They program some robot to crawl blogs and post comments linking to their sites that link to other sites that they’re paid to boost the search engine rank for. Crap, crap and more crap. Using spam blocking software I’ve so far stopped 96,447 spam comments.

2. Back log of Entries.
No matter how much I blog I always seem to have a back log of stuff I want to blog about. I can never seem to stay on top of everything I want to blog about. I’ve gotten better about it lately, but I could still blog full time and barely cover it all. That lack of time usually results in lame entries, like yesterday’s U2 concert recap. Meh.

1. So Few People Blog.
For as many people as are blogging there are still a lot who aren’t. I love keeping up with friends on blogs, but I have a lot of friends who don’t blog and it’s that much harder to keep up with them. C’mon people, join the club!

someone had to illustrate #6 ;)

  2. If Spam Commenters are “the worst” how come they’re only number 3? Shouldn’t they be number 1? Or is 3 the new 1?

  3. Notice I said “these people are just the worst.” Of commenters, they’re the worst type.

So no, 3 is not the new 1. But 14 is the new 4.
