I haven’t done much pondering lately. I’ve been rather busy. Writing a novel, listening to U2, eating turkey, posting things like this. It’s been hard to just sit down and think.
I feel a bit like my brain’s been on overdrive and it’s trying to shut down. I think part of it is post-novel withdrawal. I was really in the zone while writing it, maybe not in the zone for brilliant writing, but at least in the zone for feeling like I’m accomplishing something. Coming off of that has been hard, especially since I’ve had a hard time being productive at work lately. It’s not like I’m sleeping until noon or anything, it’s just hard to put in a full day’s work when you have so many distractions and no boss (Speak doesn’t count; he just sleeps).
Thanksgiving wasn’t very helpful either. For the first time–ever, I think–I didn’t have Thanksgiving dinner with my family. It wasn’t a huge tragedy or vast difference, I just didn’t have the familiarity I usually experience with Thanksgiving. There was no red hot Jell-O. We had Thanksgiving with my wife’s family, and for Christmas we’ll be with my family for the first time ever as a married couple, and for me the first time in four years. So the holidays seem a bit off so far.
It didn’t help that I spent Thanksgiving night in the emergency room. But that’s a longer story I won’t be sharing here.
I don’t know. It’s just been one of those weird, busy, not-quite-right type things.
