I’m bloggin about this, but thought I’d share here, too.
Optimism: Someone other than Lucas will be directing (like Empire Strikes Back), Star Wars is enough of a financial juggernaut that special effects quality could be maintained at or near movie levels, high-concept possibilities like Star Wars meets 24.
Pessimism: Unofficial sequels to those crappy Ewok TV specials, Jar Jar on a TV special effects budget = even worse than Jar Jar on a movie special effects budget (difficult to maintain effects quality for 24 episodes/year), low-concept possibilities like Star Wars meets Dawson’s Creek (Young Jedis in Love).
Yes, everyone should check out Dave’s post: Star Wars 90210. He gives some lovely ideas for Star Wars TV shows — I couldn’t help posting my own: Leia the Vampire Slaya’.
Despite all the potential crappiness (um… Episodes I & II), I’m still excited just because it’s Star Wars. There’s something about seeing it on screen that manages to overcome bad characters and lame plots. For the most part anyway. I wouldn’t fall in love with it, but it’d still be fun to see the music swell and the Star Wars logo fly across the screen.
