Madeleine L’Engle Riffs

Check out the interview with Madeleine L’Engle in Newsweek (link via Bloggedy Blog). She comes off as the fiesty 85-year-old woman you’d expect.

  1. She sounds like Anne Lamott or something. What’s up with that?!

Seriously though, she liked the part in DaVinci Code about how Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene?! What is this woman smoking?

  2. I think she was simply saying that she appreciates the fictional idea. Sometimes the ‘what if’ discussions about Jesus can be pretty interesting, and that’s how she sees the Da Vinci Code book. She certainly isn’t taking it as fact. The woman likes stories, and that makes for a pretty interesting one.

  3. I like stories as much as the next guy, but I still believe there is such a thing as heresy … and sacred cows … and … well, you know … whatever.

I didn’t read DaVinci Code, but a friend of mine did and she’s been dealing with DaVinci conspiracy fanatics ever since. The book is fiction, but thousands of people (if not millions) are taking it for fact.

I guess they asked her the question about DaVinci Code so she answered it the way she did. I was just hoping she had more taste than that ;-)
