Sick of being Sick

January 19th, 2009

I have officially met my quota of sick for 2009. Seriously. This week was ridiculous.
Last Sunday I went to bed feeling very tired but didn’t really think about it because it had been a long week and a busy weekend.
Woke up around 4:30 in the morning with the stomach flu.
Stayed home sick from work Monday and Tuesday.
Went to work Wednesday. Not because I was feeling great but because I was sick of writing lesson plans for the substitute. (For those of you who are not teachers writing sub plans is the reason most teachers come to school sick and/or never take vacation. Sub plans are the biggest pain and many times it’s just easier to go to work sick than to try and write sub plans while sick.)
Went to work Thursday.
Thursday night went to bed with a slightly sore throat. I thought it was because we had the fireplace on and it was really dry in the house.
5:15 Friday morning. Guess who’s awake with 102 fever and writing sub plans? Yeah. Me.
Slept all day Friday.
Saturday woke up. Fever’s up to 104. Much more sleeping.
Sunday woke up with slight fever and headache (probably from laying in bed since Thursday night).
It’s now 1:40 in the morning and I’m not tired – sleeping for two and a half days can do that to you.
I’m just glad that Monday and Tuesday there is no school.

Even when she’s sick, she’s cute.

September 6th, 2008

Lexi woke up at 10 this morning. And that’s never a good sign. That usually means a sick day is upon us. Sure enough, I went into her room and she had thrown up. Here’s how our conversation went:

Me: Did you throw up?

L: Yeah. I froed up on my jammas and my bed. Can you get me my bucket. I’m supposed to fro up in my bucket.

Me: Let’s get you cleaned up.

L: Then I need to go downstairs and watch T.V. in my chair with my towel and I’ll fall asleep in my chair. I want to watch the Jonah movie and then the Muppet Show.

Me: uh…okay. Good to see you have a plan.

Stupid Sick

December 28th, 2007

Christmas Eve Lexi got sick – the gross, throwing up all over, all she wants is to be held kind of sick. Christmas morning she seemed to be doing better – just tired. Then on the way home she got sick again. The car still has a funky smell. Well, I think I caught whatever she had because last night I spent most the night in the bathroom. (I’ll spare you the details). I’m feeling a little better – but not “good” by any stretch of the imagination. Kevin was supposed to leave for LA tomorrow to write an article on a conference out there. Right now, he’s in bed sleeping after canceling his flight, etc.

Stupid sick.

Sick

September 3rd, 2007

Yesterday I got sick. I thought it was allergies but then it turned into an ad for Nyquil. I took 2 of the nyquil, slept for 5 hours in the afternoon, woke up, did lesson plans and talked to Kevin for a while, then went back to sleep around 9:30. I slept until about 10 this morning. But I woke up in the middle of the night with 102 fever. Today I felt okay – not great – so I did stuff around the house, watched TV, worked on lesson plans and then I tried to go to bed around 10. Well, it’s 11:30 and I’m not tired. I should be tired but I can’t sleep. Part of it is because Kevin and Lexi are in Kansas and part of it is because of how much rest I’ve had in the last 24 hours.

Memorial Day Weekend

May 28th, 2007

Here’s how I spent Memorial Day Weekend:

Friday
Staff development day at work and I was sick. I went into work at 7:30 got done what needed to be done (which means my disaster of a classroom still needs to be cleaned but I’ll make the kids do that on Tuesday.) and went home by 10:00.
Slept from 10:00 – 12:00. When I woke up I thought I was feeling better so I went to Home Depot to buy paint. While waiting for the paint I realized I did not feel better so I came home and went to bed until dinner time. Kevin and his mom took Lexi for a walk and I spent the evening watching Law and Order re-runs and then went back to bed.

Saturday
Woke up feeling better for real. Around 11:00 decided to tear the wallpaper off the bathroom walls. The wallpaper came off pretty easy – the glue, well, not so much.
Saturday night Kevin’s mom babysat and Kevin and I went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner and saw Pirate’s of the Caribean 3. (Not a bad movie – not as good as the first, but way better than the second.)

Sunday
Went to church. Came home and tried to wash the glue off the bathroom walls. That sucked. And made my arms hurt. Then we went to REI and out to dinner. When we got home I spackled all the holes in the wall, taped everything off and cleaned up the bathroom a little bit.

Monday
Painted the bathroom blue. It looks pretty good, but it’s still all torn apart so I think it will look better once we put everything back together. I’ll post before and after pictures on flikr once it’s all done.

Now I Feel Bad…

November 14th, 2006

…I think Lexi caught my cold, so now we have one sick little girl. She can’t really breathe through her nose, and she hasn’t quiet figured out how to breathe through her mouth (which if she wasn’t sick would be kind of cute too watch her try and do). She thinks sneezing is really funny (she always has) and now it’s even funnier because when she sneezes, we duck. She can really get some distance on those things.

Poor kid, hopefully, she’ll be feeling better in a day or so.

The Kind of Sick That Feels Like Death

November 12th, 2006

Friday morning I woke up with a cold. It was one of those colds they describe on the Nyquil bottle. And since I’m not the type teacher to plan a week or so ahead, I needed to go to work because I had nothing ready for a sub. I went to work hoping that I could work until 11:30 (lunch time) and then have someone cover my room for the rest of the day. Well that plan didn’t happen because 2 other teachers were already out sick. So I worked all day. All day with a fever, a headache, and 17 kindergarteners with absolutely no volume control. When it finally hit 1:00 and it was rest time, I made them all lay down and declared that nobody was getting off their mats until it was absolutely silent in the room. Rest time lasted 50 minutes. It took them that long to be quiet, but it was a nice long break for me. Normally, I only make them lay down for 20 minutes. I came home Friday and went to bed. Couldn’t sleep because I was too hot, then too cold, then too hot. By morning I thought I was feeling better. Got up to change Lexi and half way through changing her I started to black out. I grabbed a half-naked baby off the changing table and sat down in the chair. I called Kevin in to come help me. When he picked up Lexi I didn’t even realize that I hadn’t put a new diaper on her. It was a very strange feeling. Okay, so after that weird little episode, I felt better. I went to dog class, trained with Mazie, and then taught. Not a good plan. Came home and slept the entire afternoon. Woke up, had some dinner and pretty much went back to bed.

Today I feel much better. Hopefully Kevin and Lexi will not get what I had.

2 Weeks Off

July 8th, 2004

I haven’t been to work in two weeks. Crazy. Last week I was in Rapid City, SD with the youth group (more about that later) and this past week I have been home fighting off a cold/fever thing. I have never taken this many sick days. Although, I guess so far it’s only really been three. Monday we were closed for the 4th of July. But I have tomorrow off as well because I went to the doctor today and she wrote me a note saying I have to stay home tomorrow so I don’t get all the kids in my class sick. Tomorrow is sort of like a free day for me. I’m feeling tons better tonight (yay) so tomorrow I can do whatever I want. But I should probably do something responsible like my homework. If anyone has any better suggestions, please let me know.

Home Sick

April 1st, 2004

I’ve been home sick for 2 days with one of those colds they describe on the Nyquil bottle. Yesterday was no fun at all – just lying on the couch and watching old reruns on TNT. Today I am feeling pretty good, I just can’t go to work because I had a fever yesterday and that’s one of the upsides of working in a daycare – if you have a fever you have to be out for at least 24 hours. No exceptions. So now that means I have a whole day to stay home and do whatever. But I’m feeling really lazy. So far I have just been sitting on the couch watching reruns on TNT. Maybe I’ll go take a nap and see how I feel after that…..
