NaBloPoMo Post #27
And I’m officially behind in the blog-a-day thing. I was doing really well – even ahead a day but then we traveled for Thanksgiving. And I know what you are thinking “why couldn’t you blog from wherever you traveled to?” Well, you know those commercials for cell phones when they talk about dead-zones? That’s my parent’s house. You can get the internet. In the living room. Close to the window. If you hold the laptop just right. And even then you are just trying to pick up a signal from the neighbor’s.
So there you go. That’s my excuse. But I’ll make up for it. Promise.
NaBloPoMo, technology | Comment (0)Did you get the memo?
A boring public service announcement for my readers:
For some reason the letter we wrote to our friends and family regarding Milo’s homecoming is extremely interesting to people with names like “nihjliahgdfs” and “whithenninbht” and e-mail address like “theyinehggth @ g mail”.
I get anywhere from 20 – 30 comments a day on that post from spammers. And I think because all the e-mail addresses are g-mail accounts my comment-spam filter is saving them for me to moderate. Which means the legitemate commenters that my filter doesn’t recognize because they are new get lost in the muck of spam and often times get deleted by accident.
If you commented and it has not appeared, I’m sorry. I really am. I still like you…you can still be my friend, I promise.
And if any web-savy people know how I can fix this problem (without deleting the post or closing the comments) that would be great.

My score was 51 out of 100.
technology | Comments (4)Commenters, Please Read
If you have left a comment on my site in the last 2-3 days and it has not shown up I’m really sorry. Don’t worry, I’m not censoring anyone, apparently my computer is. I thought I accidentally deleted one comment but then when I double checked I noticed that about 6 comments had not appeared and they have disappeared to who-knows-where. So, if you felt your comment was important, please re-post it. Even if you felt your comment wasn’t that important, please re-post. And if it still doesn’t show up, well, then my computer and I are going to have a long chat about censorship and allowing people the right to voice their opinions.

I’ve added a few links to the side bar in on my blog. You, too, can check out my facebook profile, follow me on twitter, read all the random stuff I’ve saved in del.icio.us and check out my talent for sewing things on flickr. (And just so you know my flickr pictures are only pictures of the things I have made or that I’m currently working on. If you are looking for cute Lexi pictures you need to go here.)
artsy/crafty, technology | Comment (0)Wish Lists and Amazon.com
A couple days ago I decided I wanted to find a site that I could put all of my “wish list” items in one place. I wanted a site that would let me include anything and everything I found online. And I found one. Wishlist.com allows you to do just that. I signed up add a bunch of fun stuff and moved a bunch of my stuff from my amazon list to the new list. Then a couple hours later I logged back in to my amazon list and saw a huge banner that said “you can now make amazon.com your universal wishlist.” Seriously? How did I miss this? Is it new? I’m sure it’s not new. I’m never that ahead of the game.
Well, anyway, for those of you in gift-giving moods, I’ve added links to my blog with my wish lists. My amazon list contains only books, DVD’s & CD’s. The list on wishlist.com contains everything else. There are also lists for Lexi and the new baby. Same deal – the amazon list is a children’s book list and everything else is on their wishlists. Happy shopping.
random, technology | Comment (0)Problem Solved. Sort of.
A couple of weeks ago I had some serious words with my blog about how it was posting pictures. There was much complaining, muttering, and swearing under my breath at how irritating it was being. Today I tried to upload a picture of the most beautiful pile of fabric ever seen and more words were exchanged. However, Kevin and I realized it may not be a wordpress thing like we originally thought. We figured out it was the particular theme I was using. I really liked the theme I had but instead of trying to fix the code for how it places pictures (which I have no idea how to do anyway) I just changed the theme. There. Problem solved. Sort of. Oh, and go look at the new theme. I like the color scheme. Although I either need to add some type of picture/graphic to the top, or shrink it all little bit. Suggestions on which way I should go?
grad school, technology, the mundane | Comment (0)New Study on Breastfeeding
I was listening to NPR today and they had this short blurb on about the effects of breastfeeding. You’ll have to listen to the clip but basically the doctor they interviewed said that there aren’t many more benefits that breast fed babies receive over non-breast fed. There were two medical issues that were benefits (and no, allergies was not one) and the interview also stated that the bonding process was not affect by whether or not the mother nursed. This statement actually made sense to me. I don’t think the bonding process depends on nursing. I think it depends on physical touch, feeding, interaction and general care of the baby.
Okay, before everyone starts yelling at me, let me just say this. I nursed Lexi. I nursed her until she was 10 months and quit on her own (all though, I was planning on her being done at a year – extended nursing is not for me). But this interview does give mothers a ray of hope. Working moms who can’t nurse, moms who never quite got the hang of it, moms who couldn’t for medical reasons. All the moms who feel like they did their baby an injustice when nursing moms or breast-feeding advocates start talking about the wonders of breastmilk and how the best thing you can do for your baby is to nurse and it’s too bad they weren’t able to. Maybe it won’t be such a big deal if a mom chooses not to (or can’t) nurse.
Although, I do agree that when it comes down to it – price, convenience, and the fact that if my body makes milk, it’s probably good for my kid, but I’m not going to worry so much that I won’t be able to nurse the next baby.
an opinion, good news bad news no news, technology | Comment (0)new blog
I made the switch over to wordpress. After much putzing and frustration with finding a theme (the first three I picked were filed under “widget ready” but weren’t) I got everything set up the way I want it. I might switch a few of the colors around, but we’ll see.

I’ve decided to switch from moveable type (good-bye 500 server error) to wordpress. Let me know if you stumble across broken links or anything else that needs some fixing.
