The Cosby Show on DVD

March 9th, 2005 Posted in TV

Since before we discovered the joy of TV on DVD, my wife has been waiting and waiting and waiting for the release of what she would call the best television show ever: The Cosby Show. While I don’t want to get any hopes up, that moment may be coming soon.

USA Today tipped me off, and a quick search found an August 2 release date. But before we get too excited, some sources suggest that no deal has been made.

I’m not sure where that leaves us, but it’s a good bet Cosby may be coming to the Hendricks household.

Indeed it is one of the better shows that has been on TV.

I can’t say the Cosby show was bad, but… I don’t think it has a lot of “staying power” in today’s culture. Maybe it’s the fact that it was broadcast just long ago enough to fall in the gap between “recently” and “retro-reminiscent” in which no one wants to see it, but I always flip by it when I see it on TV.

Simpsons can beat Cosby hands-down. Especially when Bill is wearing one of those sweaters.

The Cosby Show was one of the best shows on T.V. The sitcom people today don’t even know how to make a 1/2 hour show as good as The Cosby Show.

I watched nearly every episode of the first 2/3 or so of The Cosby Show, and really liked it at the time, though I do have doubts about how well the show will hold up. For the age that I was at the time, it was a great show and “safe” family entertainment. Years later I came to like the Seinfeld kind of humor much more, and now I’m really digging Arrested Development - for my money, one of the funniest, best-written, most creative sitcoms around. So of course like 10 people watch it. :(

This show is coming out on DVD. http://www.tvshowsondvd.com has the press release posted on their site about this and another show. It was one of my favorite shows, so I have my money put aside to purchase this show as soon as it’s released on DVD to add to my TV Shows on DVD collection. Amazon and http://www.deepdiscountdvd.com have the show listed for release with the price.
